This is the second Thames and Kosmos game I have been asked to hold a game night for. The first was Ubongo review and it was a ton of fun. Word Slam is a fun game, but very different than Ubongo. Word Slam is really made for adult teams. We had 13 adults and 7 kids at our game night party.
How to Play: Your group divides into two teams. Each team is given four stacks of cards with words printed on them – nouns, verbs, adjectives and prepositions. Taking turns, one player from each team chooses a “Word” card and rolls a die to decide which word they will use. Using the four stacks of cards, you pick out words that will lead your team to guess what the hidden word is. The team that guesses first gets a point.
My Review: I found this game to be difficult. When played with kids, it was almost impossible. The kids just couldn’t look thru the cards quick enough to be competitive. Having to search through the four stacks of cards was quite time consuming and frustrating for players. However, it was fun with a large group of adults. It’s not my favorite game, but the other families really liked it. Thames and Kosmos provided a second copy of Word Slam to give away. The Johnson family won the raffle. The Dickerson family loved the game so much that they went onto Amazon.com and purchased a copy for themselves the very next day!
