I was awarded a Trump Tops and Lexicon-GO! game night by Tryazon. Both games are by Waddingtons.
How do you play Top Trumps?
When playing Top Trumps the bigger the group the better. We tried with 2 or 3 people and it wasn’t nearly as fun. With a larger group of people, each person has less cards so people get out quicker. The first person looks at their top card and reads off a statistic that they think will beat the others. For example… this location has an average temperature of 85 degrees. Everyone else says what their average temperature is and the person with the highest statistic gets all the cards from that round. When you are out of cards, you are out of the game. When one person gets all the cards, they win. There were a few times that the last two people kept going and going, so at some point, we called quits and just counted who had the most cards. My kids started making up statistics, like location with the most vowels in its name or place closest to where we live.
My Review
My kids choose Star Wars pack and I picked Wonders of the World. We used the Harry Potter and Friends packs as party prizes to give away to our guests. We liked the Wonders of the World pack best because it had really good stats to use and we learned quite a bit of stuff.
The game was played by both my family (which includes 13 and 15 year old boys) and a group of friends (40-65 years old). What we found is that the larger the group, the more fun it is. The game is extremely easy to play and yet still fun. We played it at a party with friends and on a road trip with our family – it worked really well in the car, obviously, the driver can’t play.
How do you play Lexicon-GO!?
Lexicon-GO! is scrabble on speed! The instructions give you different ways to play, but we did the speed rounds. Everyone gets 10 tiles. Then at the same time you start spelling words. The goal is to get rid of all your tiles. You can do that by making your own words, adding to someone else’s words or switching with tiles in the draw pile. When you use your last tile, you win.
My Review
Unlike Top Trumps, this game was harder to play with a big group, because then you don’t get as many tiles and some people couldn’t make any words at all. No more than 4 people should play. It was also harder with kids to play this game, because they couldn’t come up with very many words. It took a long time to get a winner and sometimes we just stopped and said whoever had the least letters left won. I wish the game had about twice the tiles it does. We did try to play this on our road trip as well. Obviously it couldn’t be done in the car and our hotel room did not have a big table and playing it on a bed just didn’t work.
I held a party with 4 couples and it was a mixed bag of responses. The families with kids liked Top Trumps better because it was quick and easy. The two older couples liked Lexicon-Go! and thought it would be fun to play husband versus wife. Overall our family liked Top Trumps better.
Normally, companies give extra copies of the games to giveaway to guests or coupons to buy them online. We chose to give away 2 of the Top Trumps sets because I hate not giving my guests anything.
The suggested retail price for Top Trumps on their website is $9.99. There are a ton of sets, but I think they should give you a discount on buying more than one at a time. If you want to purchase Top Trumps, you can buy it for $9.95 and free shipping on Amazon.com.
The suggested retail price for Lexicon-GO! on their website is 14.95. If you want to purchase Lexicon-GO!, you can buy it for $12.95 and free shipping on Amazon.com.
