Poetry for Neanderthals Game Review

I was given a copy of Exploding Kittens’ game “Poetry for Neanderthals” by Tryazon for my honest review. We played this during a holiday game night where 10 people attended — 9 adults and one teenager.

This game was so much fun that we literally didn’t play any other game that night. It was surprisingly hard to follow the rules. This would be a great holiday game gift or family game night gift.

How do you play Poetry for Neanderthals?

You divide into two teams. We did men vs. women. Then you alternate between teams as each person has 1 minute to give one syllable clues, preferably in a sentence, to have their team guess a word or phrase. You get 1 or 3 points depending on what your team guesses and if you break the rules, you get a point taken away.

The rules we had a hard time following were:

  • No gestures
  • No acting out
  • Only 1 syllable words
  • Talk in sentences

And when we broke the rules people would yell and laugh and get wacked over the head — not hard, but often! Suzy had the hardest time not gesturing. She got to the point where she was sitting on both of her hands and then she’d try to gesture with her head! We laughed for hours!

I would definitely recommend Poetry for Neanderthals. My husband and I played it with our teenage sons the day after the game night and they had a blast also.
